TV PICKS OF THE WEEK By Lisa Jewell
Our top three picks for your telly watching this week.
Documentary – I Do At 92
Tuesday 13 December, 10pm, Channel 4
As we live longer, there is more chance of meeting a romantic partner and getting re-married (or indeed married for the first time) later in life. This documentary follows three couples who’ve found love in their twilight years – including 96-year-old Georgina and 86-year-old Ray who venture up the aisle on their mobility scooters.
Some of the concerns in the run up to the weddings are complicated by the fact that the couples are older but in other ways, the road to matrimony is just the same no matter what age you are.
Reality – The Apprentice
Thursday 15 December, 9pm, BBC1
You might think that the final of The Apprentice would be the must-watch episode of the series but it’s actually the interview round that’s on tonight that’s really gripping. The final five candidates are put through their paces by Lord Sugar’s advisors – whether it’s a forensic demolition of a CV or catching them out in a lie, it’s a nerve wracking process for the candidates and sorts the strongest contenders from the wafflers.
We rarely get to see someone going through a job interview and it’s always an entertaining process when it isn’t you at the receiving end.
Film – Dan in Real Life
Saturday 17 December, 10.25pm, UTV Ireland
This funny film with a wonderful ensemble cast also manages to hit the right emotional notes. Steve Carrell stars as a newspaper columnist who is the widower father of three daughters – two of whom are going through their teenage years and who he increasing finds himself disconnected from.
He’s finding it hard to move on from what he once had with his wife but during a trip to meet up with his extended family, he gets a glimpse of how love can come back into his life. The cast also includes Juliette Binoche, Dianne Wiest and John Mahoney.
