Jazz and soul lovers can enjoy Violetta Curry’s unique vocal style when she performs in Ireland this autumn. She appears at Dublin’s Cobblestone on Thursday 29 September and in Charleville Castle Tullamore on Friday 30 September.
Appearing with Violetta Curry is acclaimed Catalan jazz pianist and arranger Jaume Vilaseca, Dick Thom on bass, and well known Irish drummer Kevin Brady. These Irish concerts complete Violetta Curry’s Honoring My Roots tour.
A native of Philadelphia and now living in Barcelona, Violetta Curry grew up immersed in the great songbook of the 20th century. Her father Paul Curry, a much sought after musical arranger and pianist, shared the same stage with many stellar artists including Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan.
It is not surprising that Violetta’s musical upbringing influenced her own career. In Honoring My Roots, we travel with her on a personal journey as she interprets iconic songs such as Send In The Clowns (Sarah Vaughan) and There’ll Never Be Another You (Ella Fitzgerald). Along the way, she shares stories and memories from her childhood of encounters with many of these great female singers.
Speaking about this influence, Violetta says:
“My performance honors the women who have inspired me all through my career. But more than just being historical figures, many of these giants of 20th century music were family friends, and names that were familiar to me as a child growing up in Philadelphia.”
Honoring My Roots is Violetta’s tribute to her father Paul Curry who gave her the gift of music. The tour coincides with the release of a live album with the same title.
