The Magic Bookshop is new play for the little people in your life from Monkeyshine Theatre company. It promotes a love of books and lets the stories literally jump from the page! It is currently touring the country and full details are below…
Monkeyshine Theatre welcomes everyone aged 5 & over to The Magic Bookshop – On tour March and April 2016
This March and April, Monkeyshine Theatre will be presenting audiences with a treasure trove of wonders where old books flock together and their stories hop from the pages.
Peter and John work at the new arrivals desk. Great heaps of books have to be sorted and categorised and sometimes sent to the Dreaded Shredder. The two friends do their very best to make sure every book gets a new life and that none of the magic is lost.
Monkeyshine are inviting audiences to step inside this unique shop, swap a book… and maybe even take a little magic home with them.
Kareen Pennefather of Monkeyshine says, “We love books and we love bookshops. Books give us doors to other worlds and the magic that can be found there has inspired much of our work. We wanted to create our own bookshop, an intimate space where stories could come to life and where there’s time to dreamily browse and where people can go away with a book all of their own.”
The Magic Bookshop is produced in association with Roscommon Arts Centre, and supported by the Arts Council.

Joint Artistic Directors, Kareen Pennefather and James Jobson have a shared vision for their unique work. “We believe that there is a thread that binds us all together and we aim to make theatre that creates a space for people of all ages to come together as equals, to explore, question and celebrate all that it is to be human,” says Kareen. James continues, “We make theatre for the whole tribe. So whether you are a child, a parent, a grandparent, or simply a person, Monkeyshine makes theatre for you.”
