As part of the Flamenco Festival which runs from the 10th to the 25th of October, there will be a series of Flamenco Flashmobs around the city today and tomorrow. How wonderful an idea is that! There will also be some free classes and also Mercedes Ruiz, among others. Full details below.

Dublin Flamenco Festival will be taking to Dublin’s stages and streets this autumn, with stunning dancers and musicians from the world of flamenco.

The festival will be offering a wealth of activities, with free family classes, flamenco flashmobs, masterclasses and more, and on Saturday 24th October, a performance from multi-award-winning dancer Mercedes Ruiz.

Mercedes, together with singer David Lagos (who performed with Israel Galván on the Abbey Theatre stage during Dublin Dance Festival earlier this year) and guitarist Santiago Lara, will be presenting Baile de palabra /Dance of Word, a beautiful showcase of flamenco movement and sound, resonating with emotion and beauty.

Another highlight of the festival will be a day of free flamenco classes for dancers, stompers and clappers of all ages, taking place on Saturday 17th October. Entitled ¡Flamenco para todos! the classes will be equally open to newcomers interested in getting a taste of flamenco, and to those keen to attend in their own flamenco costume! Mercedes Ruiz will also be giving Masterclasses for Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced students on Technique, Choreography and Style on the evenings of 23rd and 24th October.

To celebrate the fifth edition of the festival, organisers are also planning flashmobs across around the city. Dancers from a range of disciplines are being invited to collaborate, bridging cultures with the involvement of step dancers and more. Rehearsals will take place 17th and 19th October, with performances at locations across Dublin on 20th and 21st.
