I particularly like the felt viruses! You can see Avian Flu at the bottom of the page. Unravel is a festival of all things woolen and felt, and takes place on Cow’s lane on Oct 25th and 26th. It’s a family friendly event, but will have something for everyone, so go explore!
UNRAVEL – Craft Bombing Cow’s Lane – Saturday 25th & 26th October
Over one hundred balls of wool and yards of felt will create an explosion of warmth and colour in Temple Bar’s Cow’s Lane on Saturday 25th & 26th October. Unravel is the first of a series of free family-friendly events entitled New In The Old City which is funded by Dublin City Council as part of its annual citywide events programme. This initiative will bring new delights to Temple Bar’s Old City over the coming months.
Unravel will feature creations in wool and felt coordinated by Irish craftspeople including felt-maker Niki Collier of Cow’s Lane Designer Studio, the yarn bomber of Phibsboro Niamh Synott, Evelyn The Arty Weaver from Temple Bar’s Designer Mart and Diane of the Dublin Knit Collective.
Events over the weekend will include a family knitting stall (resulting creations can be donated to the craft refurb of Cow’s Lane), a giant felted wall, a family workshop producing a huge collaborative artwork, creating felting from old socks, and crafted Halloween masks at The Gutter Bookshop. Local eateries will have seasonal offers to complement the crafty fun.
The re-decoration of the area will be supplemented by works by knitting groups and felters, including a knitting group which will be taking up residence at weekly ‘Knitwork’ sessions at legendary local café The Queen of Tarts.
Unravel events will take place 10am-4pm Saturday 25th and 1pm-4pm Sunday 26th.
The next New In The Old City event will take place during Dublin Book Festival on Saturday 15th pop up children’s library, readings and an open air book exchange for families.
