Whelans 25th Anniversary Celebrations

Whelans

It’s been a constant for my gig going life, and definitely my favourite venue to see any singer songwriter play. I even remember Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub and the New Mendicants saying it was his favourite venue ever, while playing with Daniel Johnston one time. He’s back playing there later this month (24th Jan). Over the years, I’ve seen Will Oldham, How Gelb coutnless times and have many other fond memories of the place.

This year Whelans is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary, with a series of gigs by the ‘biggest and best’ bands to play the venue over the years, and they’re also opening a record shop. Stay tuned to the web site whelans25.com for more details.

25th Anniversary Celebrations

So let’s Celebrate!!!…

Whelans plan to bring you some very special gigs throughout 2014 featuring acts vital to music. Each month some of the biggest and best bands to play Whelans over the years will return to play special intimate one off shows. For each of these shows rock art specialist will be commissioned. A video of each night will also be made.

 Whelan’s New Record Shop

One of Whelans most exciting projects planned for 2014 will be the opening of Whelans very own record shop, sure to be a life-line to both customers looking for hard to get cds and bands looking for an outlet to feature their newest releases.

We are searching for any photos our customers have taken from the gigs over the years.

We will publish these online with a competition voted for by the public, to find the best pic. An exhibition of the best photos will take place. We will also be asking people to send in their special memories from gigs and also collating a video vault gallery where people can submit their videos of bands playing in Whelans. People will also be able to vote for the most memorable gig from those 25 years… A new website whelans25.com will be launched in late January to collate all these elements and also allow customers to participate in the celebrations.
