Druid Rename Auditorium

Peige, Garry & Marie

He’ll always be remembered by most of us for his role as Miley in Glenroe, but Mick Lally was a stalwart of the Irish theatre scene for many years and is a co founder of Druid, one of the most important Irish theatre companies to this day. Therefore, it is a lovely gesture by Druid to rename their main space in Druid Lane Theatre in honour of Mick, for his great work with them throughout the years.

“It keeps Mick alive in our hearts as we go on with our work” – Marie Mullen

On Friday, 22nd November 2013, friends and colleagues gathered at Druid Lane Theatre to celebrate the renaming of the auditorium to the Mick Lally Theatre to remember the great actor, father, husband, friend and colleague.

The auditorium will serve as a permanent reminder of Mick’s association with Druid and his love of the stage. Mick, Garry Hynes and Marie Mullen founded the company in 1975 and Mick was to appear in many productions right up until his final Druid appearance in 2009.

In attendance members of his family including his wife Peige, his sons Darach and Maghnus; Druid co-founders Garry Hynes and Marie Mullen and some of the many friends and colleagues he met through his acting career as well as those friends with whom he shared his love of music. Music by Sean Tyrell, Johnny Mulhern, Mary Staunton, Lena Ullman and guests.
