Reenactment of Bloody Sunday – Sat 31st August

Ever wanted to be a Docker or Jacobs Worker? Or even one of the poor of Dublin? If so, now is your chance to be involved in an official recreation of the events of Bloody Sunday.

As part of the 100 year anniversary of the lock out, there will be a day of celebrations on Saturday the 31st of September, starting with a state commemoration/ wreath laying at the statue of Jim Larkin on O’Connell street led by President Michael D Higgins. Details can be found here.

It will also include a number of musical performances; readings from Strumpet City by well-known actors and pieces of drama including an excerpt from ANU Productions’ Living the Lockout and a scene from the Risen People. From CIPTU web site. 

At this point, the reenactments begin:

2 pm – Reenactment of Bloody Sunday

2.30 pm – Reenactment participants move to Foley Street

3 pm – Unveiling of plaque for those who died

3.30 – Soup Kitchen and Fleadh in Foley Street

COMMUNITY RE-ENACTMENT OF BLOODY SUNDAY

11.00 am Assembly points for Community Re-Enactment participants:

Dockers (men): Custom House – If coming as a docker, please wear dark trousers (not jeans or combats)with a belt or braces, collarless shirt with a muffler or handkerchief around the neck, dark waistcoat or jacket, hat or cap and dark shoes (no trainers).

Jacobs Workers (women): Rear of Central Bank – If coming as a Jacobs worker, please wear a dark ankle-length dress or skirt, a light-coloured blouse and dark boots or flat shoes (no trainers). If possible, please wear a dark coloured or straw hat.

Poor of Dublin (men, women and children): Gloucester Diamond Men, women or children coming as the ‘poor of Dublin’ should wear old, torn or shabby clothes (see notes for men and women above) and very old shoes (no trainers).
