The Critics were all in good form this week, and seemed to like most of the new releases, and there’s even a few surprises along the way!
Iron Man 3 was meant to be rubbish, at least that’s all I was expecting. The first one was good, the second one…. not so much, and then the next one is meant to be rubbish and kill the franchise! A new director (Shane Black) and a few good actors (Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce) along with those already well installed (Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow) and they seem to have got it right! I’m more than a little surprised how good the reviews are.
Who would have thought that all Jack Black needed to do to look more than a little creepy was to grow a mustache! Bernie stars Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine and the ubiquitous Matthew McConaughey and tells the story of a man who finds love in the arms of an older rich widow, and then knocks her off! It’s a spoof by Director Richard Lnklater (Before Sunrise etc) and it’s more than a little surprising that he’s involved. There’s a few 5 star reviews knocking around for it, so it has it’s fans!
White Elephant/ Elefante Blanco is the story of corruption in Argentina, from director Pablo Trapero
The Look of Love was directed by Michael Winterbottom and stars Steve Coogan, Imogen Poots and Anna Friel, and tells the story of Soho porn king Paul Raymond! Average reviews sadly, but I’d still like to see it!
Jump stars Nichola Burley and the equally ubiquitous Richard Dormer (they may have cloned him!). Learn the lesson well, don’t steal from criminals! It never ends well…
