One of my friends has a theory that the Wachowski brothers actually died in a car crash (or something) after the first Matrix movie, and were replaced by by the two bungling directors who made the other two dreadful Matrix movies and more recently Speed Racer! Well, the two possible imposters are back with a new release, where they combine with the director of Run Lola Run (Tom Tykwer) for the near three hour version of David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas. It combines six different segments in different times, spaces, worlds etc. The critics are all over the place, some love it, some hate it. You’ll have to make up your own mind on it, I’m afraid.
Terrence Mallick releases another movie that looks like an insurance advert, with ‘To the Wonder‘. Yes, I’ll go to see it, and yes, it’ll look beautiful but I fear it might be a little bit dull. Expect a lot of montage scenes and dreamy images of the past.
Lore is a film set in the last days of the second world war, directed by Cate Shortland who follows up her earlier movie Somersault, and almost all the critics seem to enjoy it.
Otherwise this week, there’s Terrence Stamp and Vanessa Redgrave in ‘Song for Marion‘ which gets very average reviews, but I think the two main actors are almost enough to carry it, right?
There’s a hard hitting documentary on child abuse in the Catholic church with Mea Maxima Cupla: Silence in the House of God.
There’s also Mama, which is presented by Guimeme Del Torro, which really doesn’t mean very much! It’s directed by Andres Muschietti which is much more important when you think about it! It’s seems a pretty average horror movie.
