Movies – 13-01-11 – Shame

Shame is the second movie by Steve McQueen. He’s a video artist turned movie maker, and I’m sure he’s getting much more notoriety from making movies than the other. He actually won the Turner prize in 1999 but unfortunately for him, Tracy Enim was also one of the entrants that year, with ‘My Bed’ getting all the attention. Shame is the story of sexual addiction, with Michael Fassbender taking the lead role, which the critics wet themselves over.

Warhorse is Speilberg’s latest effort, the story is told through the eyes of a Horse that goes to the first world war. Some say it’s sweet, some say sickly sweet. John Williams does the sountrack, so you’ll know what you’re meant to feel at any particular moment throughout the piece.

Margin Call is the story of why we’re all broke at the moment! Director JC Chandor somehow assembled an ensemble cast including Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Demi Moore, Zachary Quinto (new Spock!), Demi Moore and Stanley Tucci for a story of bad guys on Wall Street.

Darkest Hour sadly seems to be complete rubbish, but is the story of alien invasion and other guff. One day, someone will make a good one of these movies!

  1. ok, this is interesting because I saw a bit of an interview only this morning with Steve McQueen (in the gym). The movie looks very good actually. An interesting one. And then there’s Margin Call. I have to admit being a sucker for any movie/documentary about finance haha so I’m very keen on seeing this one! One of the biggest disappointments of recent times was Wall Street 2 – I hope it’s not like that!

  2. There’s a school of thought that Shame looks lovely but is a bit hollow. The same could actually be said about ‘Hunger’ that director’s last movie, which was also with Fassbender. They feel strangely like extended video art pieces, for obvious reasons.

Bankers make such good bad guys, that Margin Call can’t lose in my book! Nice to see Kevin Spacey back also, he doesn’t do many movies anymore.
