This has already been mentioned by Morgan but having listened to this record for the last while I have to bring it up again. First off, I love this album. I think it is less desolate (and sad) than For Emma (which I also love) and instead for me conjures up more of a nostalgic feel. I hear bits of Red House Painters in it actually. I also enjoy listening to albums with a consistant tone throughout. Think Joni Mitchell’s Blue or Admiral Fell Promises by Sun Kil Moon. Bon Iver has that in spades on both his albums. But then there is the last track on the new album, Beth/Rest. It really is an odd one. There’s no getting away from it… 80s. At first listen it felt like someone had spiked my iPod and slipped random Phil Collins tracks into my record collection. But here’s the thing: having listened to it loads lately I actually LIKE the closing track. I now hear it as I hear the Blue Nile. I’m good with it. What do you think?

It’s very Phil Collins, but is that a bad thing? Steven Gerrard would say no!
Phil is winning! Noooooo
Come on Phil Collins, come on…. ‘One more night’, ‘In the air tonight’, ‘Sussudio’. Actually, Bon has a lot to live up to!
Well, given that Phil has officially retired from music, someone needed to fill that space, and no better man than Justin Vernon! Phil always makes me think of American Psycho…
