The Dublin Film Festival is still on, I’ve dabbled in it, going to two movies, one good, one bad! I think that’s the danger with the film festival, is that you’re basing your decision on a four line blurb in the festival book, which is never really going to say anything negative about the film!
Howl is story of Alan Ginsberg’s poem of the same name! Sounds ambitious, doesn’t it? It seems to be splitting the critics, but might be worth a visit, and is based around Ginsberg’s like, and that of the other Beat writers such as Kerouac and Cassidy.
Vik Muniz is an artist I’ve always liked, you might know him from his portrait of Marilyn Monroe using diamonds, but many more using chocolate, children’s toys and a variety of other media. Wasteland is a movie about his attempts to get Brazilian ‘catadores’ (who live off the dumps in Rio) to create giant images using what is available in their environment. Most of the reviews I’ve found are pretty favorable, so might be worth a wander.
Animal Kingdom ended up in Tarantino’s movies of the year list. and is a story of crime in Melbourne. Again, all the reviews I can find are positive, so other one that might be worth a visit.
