The Antlers –  EartH, London – Live Review – 10/03/26
by R. Sheedy

Venue: EartH, Hackney, London, March 10th, 2026

EarTH is a perfect venue for a band like The Antlers, an old Art Deco cinema converted into a live venue, with wooden benches in place of cinema seats creating a great auditorium, with a deep and atmospherically lit stage generating real atmosphere.

To start the evening, we were treated to a 30-minute set from Julie Odell, playing as a duo with guitar accompaniment. The set showcased Odell’s vocals, with the twin guitars creating a textured sound, which was well received by the audience. It was a great taster of Odell’s music, and I hope to see her back with a full band at some point.

The Antlers released their seventh studio album, Blight, in late 2025. The band is from Brooklyn, New York, and all songs are written and sung by Peter Silberman. For this tour, they are a duo, with Peter Silberman alternating between guitar and keys, accompanied by Michael Lerner on drums. The set was a good mix of old and new, with five songs from Blight sprinkled across the evening, with the bulk of the remaining songs being drawn from Familiars (2014) and, inevitably, Hospice (2009).

This tour shows Silberman trying to reconcile the narrative of his early work, which lyrically focuses on the internal, with his more recent work, which is very much about the external and what’s going on in the world. His conclusion seems to be that these messy ties through which we live probably bring our internal worlds closer together as we navigate the difficulties of our shared external experience.

Their opening track, Consider the Source, off ‘Blight’, gave us a foretaste of the gentle, restrained arrangements that characterised the first half of the set.

The crowd was reverential throughout, and gave the band silence as they treated us to sparse arrangements, with Silberman’s note-perfect voice demanding rapt attention. The well-judged use of a bass track in places kept the sound interesting and added much to the sound.

We got a beautiful version of Kettering, with Silberman playing solo on keyboard, and from there, the man himself became somewhat chattier, and the noise picked up, with Calamity and Director rounding out the main part of the show with real energy.

An encore of Parade, Porchlight, being rounded out by the Silberman solo track Ahimsa, all received with rapturous applause from the audience.

Presumably as a result of Silberman’s hearing issues, The Antlers don’t tour all that often, and when they do, it’s usually relatively limited in terms of dates, which is a shame for fans, and indeed for the band – he’s a man who looks in his element delivering these songs live.
