Steve Gunn – A Year in Music – 2025
by Killian Laher

You’ve had a great year, with two albums released in the last few months. Are you happy with how they’ve been received?

I think so, yes. I’ve had some very nice, meaningful feedback. It’s hard to tell sometimes with releases, there is a mixed feeling there with letting them go and seeing how it comes back. Ultimately, it has been nice.

What albums have you enjoyed most this year?

I’ve been enjoying the Armand Hammer and Alchemist album Mercy a lot.

James Elkington’s solo guitar album Pastel De Nada

Basic Channel – Q Loop reissue

What’s the most promising new act you’ve heard this year?

Ryan Sawyer’s Shaker Ensemble

Any gig highlights?

Bob Dylan in Kerry

Can you recommend an album that doesn’t get the recognition it deserves

Wednesday Knudsen’s album Atrium

What inspires you these days?

Benevolence. A curvy road with a view.

What’s next for Steve Gunn?

Some touring on the West Coast of the US in January. Rest. More gigs in the spring.

Reissuing some old music. I’ll also start to write again, slowly.

Steve Gunn plays Bello Bar, Dublin on April 2nd.
