RM Hubbert (musician) – A Year in Music – 2025
by Killian Laher

How has your year been?

Quiet! Mostly just making instruments for the next record, and some writing. I’m definitely enjoying the slower process these days.

What albums have you enjoyed most this year?

We Were Made Prey – Kathryn Joseph

I Feel Different Every Day – clothegod

Constant Noise – Benefits

More or Less – Dancer

Fairyland Codex – Tropical Fuck Storm

What’s the most promising new act you’ve heard this year?

clothegod was new to me, at least. That EP is brilliant. I can’t wait to hear what she does next. Sophie Hunter as well, she’s great.

Any gig highlights?

None! My shitty health has kept me away from any shows this year, unfortunately.

Can you recommend an album that doesn’t get the recognition it deserves

Honestly, any of the records I mentioned earlier should have gotten a tonne more recognition, but the new Dancer album (More Or Less) in particular should have gotten a lot more exposure. It’s great.

What inspires you these days?

Curiosity. I’ve rediscovered a love of learning, and improving. Doesn’t really matter what it is!

Anything interesting in the works yourself?

There are a couple of records I’m working on right now; one solo, the other collaborative. Neither will see a release for a couple of years, though.
