New Music – Anika – Whelans – 3/05/25

An album that was released a few weeks ago, that slipped through our net, is Abyss (released April 4th) by Anika. Anika is the stage name for “British-born, Berlin-based musician Annika Henderson”. Have a listen to the lead single Hearsay below and you might be tempted to head along to Whelans for the first Saturday night in May! It’s the type of song that would sound great in a sweaty club with squealing guitars and screamed lyrics….

“I thought about cutting the verse where I was saying the whole world should go to hell,” Anika says. “I wondered if it was too much. But I just wanted to say the truth of where I was at.” Anika hopes this pure emotion will position the listener to fully immerse themselves in Abyss. “There needs to be room for people to put themselves in this album, and put their own narratives on it,” she says. “This is a space for you.”

Anika, the Berlin-based artist known for her experimental sound collages and confrontational texts, is set to make her Irish debut in Whelan’s, Dublin, this May.

With a rich history of blending post-punk, dub, and psychedelic influences, Anika’s performances are unique, promising an evening of innovative and unforgettable music.

Don’t miss this chance to experience Anika live in Ireland for the first time.
