Albums of 2025 – A Look Ahead
by Killian Laher
2025 is shaping up to be an interesting year for new albums. First up will be the forthcoming Mogwai album, The Bad Fire due out in January, their first non-soundtrack album in three years
There will be plenty of Irish interest with Bren Berry of Revelino’s solo album In Hope Our Stars Align out in January
Adrian Crowley will release what may or may not be a bossanova-influenced album Measure of Joy in February
The Murder Capital release their third album Blindness, also in February
Also confirmed in February is the second album from Horsegirl – Phonetics On and On
The Horrors return with their first album in seven years in March – Night Life
The Apartments will hopefully release That’s What The Music Is For, and Pat Barrett in his guise as Arrivalists may or may not be working on a new album Little Bird, Big Heart. Throwing Muses are preparing an album under the title Moonlight Concessions and The Cure are teasing a quick follow-up to 2024’s excellent Songs of a Lost World but we’ve heard this before from Robert Smith.
Alan Sparhawk has made an album with Trampled by Turtles which will hopefully sound a bit more palatable than his most recent release. Debbie Googe will likely release a solo album under the name Da Googie, Golden Thread is the working title, and Robert Forster may release an album called Tambourine. Scott Morgan will have another loscil album coming out in the spring and Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts will release Talkin’ to the Trees. Evan Dando is teasing a Lemonheads album Love Chant but this is hard to believe and at some point, Morrissey might get his Bonfire of Teenagers album released. Or maybe not. My Bloody Valentine will be playing a show in the 3Arena and who knows, new music could be on the way?
