New Music – John Douglas – I’m Not the Fella

John Douglas is a singer/ guitarist in one of the most underappreciated bands of the 90s, the Trashcan Sinatras. Despite releasing two gems during this decade in the form of I’ve Seen Everything  (1993) and A Happy Pocket (1996), the band never received the commercial success they deserved. They are the darlings of many a music journalist and their live performances are the stuff of legend!

John released his first solo album in October of this year, which is imaginatively called John Douglas (2023). It’s a collection of live versions of some Trashcan Sinatras favourites, as well as covers and original songs. He recently toured Ireland on a joint headline tour with Ultan Conlon. They played in Dublin in the cellar of the Workman’s Club.

You can hear the current single ‘I’m Not The Fella’ below…

John Douglas (2023) – John Douglas

The debut solo album from one of Scotland’s finest songwriters John Douglas (Trashcan Sinatras) is released worldwide October 6th 2023 via Reveal Records. The eleven songs were recorded solo, live at Kyoti studio Glasgow (with no overdubs) by producer Mark Freegard (who also mixed and mastered the album).

John Douglas features new recordings of some of his favourite Trashcan Sinatras material, alongside new songs and John’s version of the Prefab Sprout classic ‘We Let The Stars Go’.

Hailing from Irvine on Scotland’s west coast, John and his band have been making music for over thirty years. Alongside his Trashcan Sinatras songwriting career John has been playing live gigs across the UK and Ireland as part of his partner Eddi Reader’s band and performed solo sets at shows with musical friends: Jill Jackson, Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub) and James Grant (Love & Money). Whilst back in Irvine recently, John was invited to guest with Martin McAloon (the pair having first met when Trashcan Sinatras toured with Prefab Sprout in 1990 for the ‘Jordan – The Comeback’ tour).

His debut solo album arrives at last, an intimate snapshot, the start of a new chapter, looking back and moving forwards.
