Album of the Week – 03/11/23

And after a short break for most of October, we’ve returned with our thoughts on the best new music of the week!

This week sees new releases from bar italia (The Twits), Cold War Kids (Cold War Kids) and Snail Mail (Valentine Demos EP) among others.

William Eggleston releases an album and if that name sounds familiar, yes, it’s the 77-year-old American photographer! His new album is called Musik.

For our Album of the Week, we’ve gone for Laura Veirs who has just turned 50! You can read her thoughts on her new album below but we love it!

Album of the Week – Laura Veirs – Phone Orphans

Laura Veirs – Liberty Hall, Dublin – 24/11/2023

“It feels good, on my 50th birthday and after 30 years of writing songs, to bring these “Phone Orphans” into the light – These songs have been hiding out on my phone, some of them for over eight years. They are about my family, my lovers and me. I recorded them alone in my living room into my voice memo app. I like their relaxed feel. These songs were mastered but we made no edits to the recordings. I hope you enjoy this intimate glimpse into my artistic process.

All songs by me except “Up is a Nice Place to Be” by Rosalie Sorrels and “The Archers” with lyrics adapted from a poem by Federico Garcia Lorca. – Laura Veirs”
