New Irish Music: Damian O’Neill – Más O Menos
Damian O’Neill of the Undertones released his third solo album last year, the quietly impressive an crann. His solo material is quite different to the pop/punk of his band, largely consisting of moody instrumentals. The track has been remixed by French band The Limiñanas with the track looping with extra ‘twang’ and a French voiceover part added giving the track a nocturnal twist. Artist Kevin Sharkey has also remixed the track and given it a very different treatment. The EP is available here.
Damian O’Neill – Video Premiere
Driving down to south Devon this afternoon, I had my music on in the car. Wanted something chilled and multi-layered, so started listening to An Crann, the new solo album on Dimple Discs, by Damian O’Neill, lead guitarist from the mighty Undertones and That Petrol Emotion – two of my favourite bands. Wow, I’m really impressed! It’s largely instrumental, with some ethereal backing vocals, stunning samples, and it’s full of interesting touches – very eclectic musical styles, great guitars obviously, but great drumming and lots of different types of percussion and string instruments used. Mandolin, organ, squeeze-box, castanets, etc. Very classy…
