Only a few weeks to go before the 24 Hour Plays return to the Abbey stage, on Sunday the 31st of January. There is a touch of madness to the proceedings, as these plays were created over the previous 24 hours, and it’s all for a good cause. Check out the details and cast list below.

For one night only – Sunday, 31st January, 2016 at the Abbey Theatre

Six short plays to be written, rehearsed and presented within 24 hours by the best of Irish writing and directing talent and over two dozen of Ireland’s most recognized and beloved stars of stage and screen.

The 24 Hour Plays will return to the Abbey Theatre on Sunday, 31st January 2016, for the 5th annual presentation in aid of Dublin Youth Theatre. Six short plays will be written, rehearsed and presented all within 24 hours by the best of Irish writing and directing talent and over two dozen of Ireland’s most recognized and beloved stars of stage and screen. A team of over 30 theatre technicians, including producers from The 24 Hour Company in New York, will facilitate the work.

This will be the 5th annual presentation of The 24 Hour Plays as a special gala fundraising event for Dublin Youth Theatre and tickets will cost from €35-€120, with all proceeds going directly to DYT.

The cast includes Republic of Telly’s Joanne McNally, Irish Pictoral Weekly’s Eleanor Tiernan, Fair City actors Dagmar Döring, Kate Brennan, Geoff Minogue, and Daryl McCormack, Claire O’Reilly (Swipe TV), Norma Sheehan (Moone Boy, Damo and Ivor), Dawn Bradfield (The Clinic, Moone Boy, King Arthur), Donna Dent (Zonad, The Tudors, Dancing at Lughnasa), Denis Conway (Brooklyn, The Clinic, Druid), and Lloyd Cooney (Charlie, The Shadow of a Gunman). Directors include Selina Cartmell, Aoife Spillane Hinks, David Horan, Donnacadh O’Briain, Madeline Boughton, and Emma Jordan. Playwrights include Stewart Parker Award-winner Emmet Kirwan, Lee Coffey, Rosaleen McDonagh, and comedian and activist, Tara Flynn.

The 24 Hour Plays originated in New York in the mid-90s and is now an annual gala benefit on Broadway, as well as at the Old Vic in London, with performances in Chicago, Athens and around the world. The first Irish incarnation of The 24 Hour Plays received its sold-out Irish premiere presentation in February 2012 at Project Arts Centre and went on to win a Special Recognition Award for Best Event at the Irish Fundraising Awards that year. In January 2013, the show moved to the Abbey Theatre where it played to a sold-out house. Now in its 5th year, The 24 Hour Plays has raised over €37,500 for Dublin Youth Theatre through ticket sales and donations.
