One of the many events taking place for Halloween is the Samhain event at the National Leprechaun Museum, which runs from Oct 24th to the 1st of Nov. Say hello to the dark…

Nightly from Friday 24 October to Saturday 1 November, The National Leprechaun Museum invites you to take part in their annual Halloween show (strictly over 18s) and explore the dark side of Irish mythology and your past. Visit a place of muttered words, of knowing thoughts shared in dark corners, say hello to the black night that fills this time of year. Come in, and see what the feast we have made for your fears.

Drawing from our deep well of stories, our past awakes and reaches out to touch us.The festival of Samhain, now more commonly referred to as Halloween, marked the end of the year. People believed that everything, including our lives, began and ended in the dark. At this time the gates to the otherworld opened and dead people were able to walk about.

This was a time of fear, things had to be finailsed by Halloween night, otherwise they might take a strange turn. To keep the spirits away we disguised ourselves and our doorways, in some places the door are left open to let the spirits in and out. As the night draws in, people get closer to the fire strange tales are told, a word to the wise, a warning to the foolish and a thrill to all.

This Halloween the museum has prepared something special, a strange brew of old story and fairy medicine to raise the hairs on your neck. Come and see what your ancestors got up to, come and see the feast we have made of your fears.

We’ve all visited Santa Claus at Christmas, this Halloween,The National Leprechaun Museum also invites you to visit the Cailleach, the ancient hag of wisdom from Irish folklore. Under 18’s can visit the witch daily between 11.00am to 18.00pm from Friday 24 October to Saturday 1 November, with special adults only visits from 7.00pm to 11.00pm.

The National Leprechaun Museum is dedicated to Irish folklore, mythology and storytelling. With spoken word it aims to bring folklore to life for everyone. Based in Dublin city centre, it opened in 2010 and has welcomed over 250,000 visitors.
