A new three-day festival of classical music will take place in the charming village of Monkstown, Co. Dublin from September 12th to 14th. MUSIC IN MONKSTOWN, supported by Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council will feature four concerts over the three days, and the programmes range from solo piano to string quartets, operatic arias and chamber music by composers such as Chopin, Mozart, Brahms, Beethoven, Rossini, Verdi, Debussy and more. A treat indeed for residents and visitors alike!
MIM is the brain-child of the NSO’s principal clarinetist, and Monkstown resident John Finucane, and supported by a number of other enthusiastic locals. Finucane says “Monkstown is a great place with lots going on. However, it lacks one thing – real live classical music! I am delighted that so many distinguished Irish and visiting artists readily agreed to join me on this exciting adventure which I hope will continue for many years. I am also heartened by the generous response from local businesses”
The line-up for the inaugural Music in Monkstown Festival includes some top Irish musicians as well as visiting international performers and artists loved by Irish audiences countrywide: Finghin Collins, Claudia Boyle, the RIAM Chamber Ensemble and the London based Navarra String Quartet. All promise to make Monkstown ring with the sound of music in September.
