3epkano celebrated their 10th anniversary last night in Odessa. I’m not sure how old that is in band years, but I think they’re equivalent to dog years, which makes them 70! It’s an impressive feat to hold a band together for that long, so well done to all.
3epkano are a Dublin based collective, formed by Cameron Doyle and Matthew Nolan in 2004, who are “dedicated to producing original soundtracks to silent, avant-garde, and contemporary cinema”. They’ve played in venues all over Dublin in the last few years, and the unusual collection of movies they perform with really add to the experience. Last night they left the projections at home and let the audience hear the music ‘au naturel’. They were a four piece on the night with drums, guitar and cello, and a variety of strange devices creating all sorts of sounds. They’re an interesting band that dabble at the edges of post rock, with nicely layered guitar and cello sounds, with a thumping drum beat behind.
