Even a horse needs love, and it’s not just for the stud fees, so we’re all feeling very amorous here at the stables. So, what have the Gods of Hollywood delivered to get us in the mood? There is one love story, in the form of the new Spike Jonze movie.
‘Her‘ is the latest film from the man that brought us Being John Malkovich and Adaptation. Yes, Spike is back in town, and this time he’s delivered us a perfect love story, with a man falling head over heels for his computer. It’s bound to happen at some stage. The Critics, they seem to pretty much love it, so you’ll have to add it to the list.

Bastards or Les Salauds is a French one! It’s from director Claire Denis and has a soundtrack by Tindersticks. What more could you ask for? The wonderful Helen reviewed it here. It tells an unusual story: Marco returns to Paris after his brother-in-law’s suicide, where he targets the man his sister believes caused the tragedy – though he is ill-prepared for her secrets as they quickly muddy the waters.
Isn’t’ it great when even grown ups like kids movies? It’s like the whole world can agree on something, big and little people. The Lego Movie seems to fulfil just that, and therefore we applaud it! “An ordinary LEGO minifigure, mistakenly thought to be the extraordinary MasterBuilder, is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil LEGO tyrant from gluing the universe together.”
I really was expecting a lot more from the Monuments Men, considering the cast and director involved, but by all accounts its a little bit throw away. Poop. Bill Murray has been in a few klangers recently. Still, I could watch him eat toast, and think it was funny. Poor Mr. Clooney doesn’t seem to have quite cracked the directing thing just yet. “An unlikely World War II platoon are tasked to rescue art masterpieces from Nazi thieves and return them to their owners”.

There’s Cuban Fury, with our own Chris O’Dowd. It looks your run of the mill comedy dance movie. Is that a genre? “A former salsa prodigy attempts a comeback years after his career was ruined.”
And the rest? the ones I’m barely bothered mentioning, well there’s Endless Love. “The story of a privileged girl and a charismatic boy whose instant desire sparks a love affair made only more reckless by parents trying to keep them apart”. At least it’s a love story.
Tinker Bell and the blah, blah, blah…
