New Year’s Theatre Releases

A-Tender-Thing-by-Ben-Power

First day back at work? Ugh, I know the feeling. Still, there’s more than a few things on the horizon to cheer you up! The world of theatre kicks into high gear, with lots to delight you over the coming weeks….

The Project Arts Centre has lots to look froward to, with A Tender Thing (23rd of Jan to 15th Feb) with Olwen Fouéré and Owen Roe.

 “Ben Power has taken Romeo and Juliet and re-imagined it. With Shakespeare’s words he has woven a provocative, powerful and achingly beautiful new tale of love.”

There’s also returns for Dolls and a Year of Magical Wanking. New productions include Steinback’s The Grapes of Wrath, Snow Angles, Agnes and Opera Briefs.

Smock Alley has a new production of Terminus (by Mark O’Rowe), Joyriders, Breathless and One Sandwich short of a Genius.

Wath out for Fast Intent’s produciton of MacBeth which will…

“bring Shakespeare to life as never before. Converting the Boys School into an Elizabethan playhouse, a pulsating indoor cauldron, they present a thrilling production of Shakespeare’s shortest, bloodiest and most chilling tragedy.”

The Cvic Theatre, there’s a couple of very good shows returning, after impressive runs last year (or possibly the year before?)

Jezebel by Rough Magic – 4th to 6th of Feb

Quietly – March 11th to 13th

There’s also Tenderfoot, Making Lemonade, Chancers, Faith among many others.

The New Theatre has Confusion Boats (Jan 2nd – 11th), Early Hours (Jan 13-18), Fionnuala (Jan 25th – Feb 8th) and Culture Corner.

The Gaiety Theatre has… Druid’s Colleen Bawn from the 21st to the 25th of January.

A Skull in Connemara runs from 27th of Jan to the 2nd of Feb.

There’s also Breaking Dad – Ross O’Carroll Kelly from the 25th of April to the 17th of May.

There’s also War Horse at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre from the 26th of April to the 26th of May. Not to be missed, even if it is a little on the pricey side.
