Distance from the Event – Civic Theatre – Sat, 31st Aug 2013 – Preview

Distance from the Event - Civic Theatre

Collapsing Horse are one of the bright young companies of Irish theatre. Their show Monster/ Clock made a lot of people sit up and take notice, and it received praise such as “a bright and fast-moving production, that shows real ingenuity” from the only review that really matters.

They’re back in the Fringe Festival this year, with a new show called ‘Distance from the Event’.

An entire human colony on a distant planet has gone missing. Mel has been working on the case, but gaps are starting to appear in the paper trail. One piece of paper in particular might explain the whole event, but Mel is no longer the only interested party… Science Fiction meets Irish Noir in this story about love, isolation and life’s hidden symmetries as we see two unique and captivating stories unfold rapidly into one another. Collapsing Horse, the creators of MONSTER/CLOCK, will once again bring their unique brand of storytelling to the stage, in this thrilling vision of the future. Entertaining, thought-provoking, life-affirming.

Their run in the Fringe starts on Thursday the 5th of Sept in the Beckett theatre, but if you want to beat the rush and say you were there first, there’s an opportunity in the Civic Theatre this Saturday.

Dan Colley/Collapsing Horse Theatre Company has been awarded a 12 month theatre residency from August 2013 at the Civic Theatre supported by The Arts Council of Ireland, the Civic Theatre and South Dublin County Libraries.

During this residency, they will undertake a range of projects including the preview of ‘Distance From the Event’ this Saturday, puppetry workshops for young people, performances of ‘Human Child’ and devising and development of a new dramatic piece.

“Myself and Collapsing Horse are delighted to be beginning as Theatre Artists in Residence in the Civic this week. It’s a year-long engagement in which we will get the resources we need to make exciting new work and develop our relationship with audiences in Tallaght. Day 3, and it already feels like home!” – Dan Colley – Collapsing Horse
