David Turpin’s performance at last year’s Fringe Festival was a bit special, there was an air of expectation amongst the sold out crowd, and the new music and performance on the night did enough to get him a nomination for ‘Best Male Performer’ in the Festival.
The Fruits of his labour have eventually been released, with the new album coming early next month and the single “A Warning to the Curious” released today, August 16th.
“The album and performance are trailed by the first single from We Belong Dead, “A Warning to the Curious”, which is available for download from August 16. Co-written with rising retro-house producer and one quarter of pop-noise exponents Bouts, the song was mixed by Stephen Shannon (Strands, Adrian Crowley) and features strings by Cora Venus Lunny and guitar by Villagers frontman Conor J. O’Brien. A disco meditation on parenthood and adolescence, the single is 20 percent Philip Larkin, 80 percent Paradise Garage. Its eerie video plays on memories of Peter Weir’s Picnic at Hanging Rock and boasts a bevy of pre-Raphaelite beauties and the politest hint of cannibalism.”
The album We Belong Dead will be available on CD and digital download from September 13th.
The Late David Turpin will be back at this year’s Fringe Festival, with an appearance in Smock Alley Theatre, September 15
