No movies demanding your attention this week, but a couple of ones worth a look, if you’re so inclined.
It’s hard to believe that Spring Breakers is a good movie, as it looks like the nastiest piece of trash you could imagine. I think it’s aiming for that though, and the director involved, Harmony Korine, is the writer of Kids from 1995. His previous big release was Gummo in 1997, if you can remember that far back. God be with the days…
The Odd life of Timothy Green is a sweet looking kids movie in the style of Big, about a couple that can’t have a child, and then one night, the impossible happens… a magical little plant boy arrives from a box of lovely ideas they planted in their garden. Ok, it sounds awful, but the reviews are average, so up to you.
Dark Skies is a horror movie about people being kidnapped by aliens or some other guff. It’s directed by Scott Stewart who previously seems to have mostly worked in visual effects (Mars Attacks and Sin City among others). As with most horror movies, the trailer is probably the best thing about it, so feast on the below! It gets average reviews in most spots.
‘All things to all men’ is a crime drama starring Gabriel Byrne, that’s getting plod average to poor reviews, sadly. Still, Gabriel is always good to watch, right?
A late quartet stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Christopher Walken, Catherine Keener, and Imogen Poots! Wow, that’s an impressive lot of names. Still, the reviews all seem to confirm that it’s a bit dull, despite being well acted, so possibly one for a wet Tuesday night when it’s on DVD in six months time.
