Movie Previews – 29-03-13

Is Holy week a good time to release your new movie? I guess you have the kids off school, and people with free time. The number of new movies seems lower than normal, but there’s a few good ones in there, so I’m happy enough!

The search for a new good Irish movie may be over, as ‘Good Vibrations‘ hits the cinemas this week! We’ve been waiting a while, what was the last one? Grabbers? Maybe I’m being harsh. Good Vibrations tells the story of the start of a new record shop and record label in Belfast in the 70’s and pretty much everyone seems to like it!

West of Memphis – 3 horrific murders in the bible belt of America (West Memphis, Arkansas) and the local population want answers, and rightly so, crimes like this should not go unpunished! This is a documentary into the arrests and wrongful convictions of three local inhabitants that looked a bit dodgy! Another sad tale into the justice system gone wrong, and by all accounts a very powerful story.

Kristin Scott Thomas stars in the French language movie In the house and tells the tale of a teacher who becomes fascinated with the homework of one of his students! It’s getting very good reviews so is definitely worth a punt. It’s from the director of the Swimming Pool, which you may remember from a few years back.

Trance is Danny Boyle’s new one. Looking back on Danny’s career, it started off so well (Shallow Grave and Trainspotting), and then just came off the boil (The Beach and Sunshine etc). Still, he’s always interesting and has a real sense of style. This one stars James McAvoy, Vincent Cassel, Rosario Dawson and Danny Sapani, and tells the tale of an auction house worker who gets involved in the robbery of a Goya painting. The reviews are average, but the trailer is worth a watch if nothing else. I like the guy with half a head!

Otherwise Finding Nemo gets the 3D treatment, and GI Joe add a new movie to the franchise (guess what, the critics thought it was pants! Surprising that one).
