Rivane Neuenschwander: A Day Like Any Other – IMMA

“I wish I had a turtle and that there were no wars”

I think we’ve all wished for something similar at some point. This is just one of the many wishes on display in Rivane Neuenschwander’s exhibition in IMMA.This is possibly the most inventive room of the exhibition, which is filled with thousands of ribbons, each having a wish from some previous wisher. You can take a ribbon with you and wear it around your wrist, but only if you write your own wish on a piece of paper, roll it up, and stick it back in the hole the wish you’ve taken came from.  When the ribbon comes off your wrist, the wish is granted, or so the story goes.

It’s a lovely exhibition in the only part of IMMA still open, the New Gallery just near the entrance. There’s also a lovely video piece of a bubble floating around an empty house, and the opportunity to have a police sketch artist draw your loved one! You can mail rivane_firstlove@imma.ie to organise an appointment with the sketch artist. More details can be found on IMMA’s web site here. The show runs until the 29th of January.
