The last movie post of the year, and a couple of good ones for you to check out. For those of you keeping note of these sort of things, yes, I did skip last week, but mostly as there was only two movies, mission impossible and dragon tattoo lady, and they both looked a bit naff. Can you remember when people got excited about Tom Cruise movies? Ok, I’m not sure that was ever the case.
This week, there’s a movie that answers all the Christmas cheer, as it’s based on a story a documentary film maker found in a discarded newspaper, which read “Woman dead in flat for three years: skeleton of Joyce found on sofa with telly still on”. It does sound fascinating, and interviews with her friends draw out the elements of Joyce’s life, and how her friends accepted that she had just disappeared! ‘Dreams of a Life’ is on in most of the art house cinemas.
The other movie of note is ‘Mysteries of Lisbon’ which is the final film by Chilean director Raul Ruiz, as he died last August. It’s a period piece based on the Camilo Castelo Branco which gets good reviews from any source I’ve checked out! You’re also getting value for money as it’s over four hours long, a good way to while away a bank holiday Monday maybe…
