Hugo wins by default I fear, as it’s a slow week at the movies. December has become the month where everyone looks back at the past year, and nothing new really happens, other than for a couple of dodgy kids movies. So let it be this December!
Hugo is a Dickensian kids tale told by Martin Scorsese, and yes, that is a very odd sentence to write! It has lots of interesting folk in it, such as Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen and the little girl from Kick Ass. I wouldn’t go to see it in a pink fit, but with a bit of luck, I’ll see at Christmas 2013 ish.
Otherwise, there’s a pretty ugly selection of movies, Happy Feet 2 gets panned (ok, I wasn’t expecting anything else). The remake/ prequel of the Thing had me excited for about five seconds, but by the sound of things, it’s well made but a bit dull, so just go back and watch the original. ‘We have a pope’ is an Italian satire about the Catholic Church, getting average reviews in most spots.
I guess it’s a week to get the Christmas shopping done anyway, so not one for the movies…
