Movies – 12-08-11 – Monkey Week!

Project Nim is the latest documentary from the guys behind ‘Man on Wire’, and focussed on an experiment from the 70’s, where a University Professor in Columbia made a chimpanzee live with a family for a year, in various settings, to see what affects it had on the chimp, in terms of language skills and others. It sounds fascinating, and is getting great reviews all round. It leads very neatly into the movie below, and I’m sure it’s not just a coincidence that they happened in the same week.

I want to go to the ‘Rise of the planet of the apes’. It sounds an interesting tale, the story of the rise of the planet of the apes. Ok, I’ll stop, but the title of this move has far too many ‘of the’s for my liking. Still, a big mass market movie with lots of special effects that is getting great reviews in all locations I can find, is a rare occurrence, so I think it’s worth a punt.

Non-monkey related movies this week receive poorer reviews obviously. The Devil’s double tells the tale of a man asked to work as the double of the son of Saddam Hussein, The Smurf’s gets three stars off many of the reviewers, so I presume it’s better than average, in the kid’s sphere. Still, it’s all about the Monkey this week.
