Dublin Theatre Festival – Programme released!

Dublin Theatre festival takes places been 29th of Sept and the 2nd of Oct and has been top notch for the last few years, with highs such as the crazy Belgians and Waves. The problem with the programme in itself, is that it doesn’t mean much to me! Not having my ear that close to the ground in the world of theatre, most of the international companies involved mean nothing to me.

Of the irish releases, the Abbey’s new version of Juno and the Paycock with Sinead Cusack and Ciaran Hinds could be interesting, along with Rough Magic’s new version of Peer Gynt is sure to be one of the highlights. Garry Hynes of Druid fame directs a new play by Colm Tobin called Testament, and the gate has a new play by Hugo Hamilton called the speckled people.  Request programme sounds like it could be nice and odd also, and has been touring the Irish festivals (Galway and Kilkenny) for the last few months.

Wild Bride is by theatre company kneehigh who are described as presenting dark yet magical productions of fairy tales for the last 30 years. There is also some dance with Gardenia, among others. Laundry set in the Magdelan Laundary and based around the events and social history of that part of Dubin, could be quite haunting also.

But mostly, you have to keep your ear to the ground to find out what’s worth visiting. Word of mouth is how I could out about the best things I’ve seen over the last few years, so maybe that’s the best way to go about it. Anyone have any tips?
